Didn't make any progress on the Music today, I got distracted setting up things like RSS/Atom feed reading (copied from previous years on the older machine) and reading Fedi (using the scripts I also developed in previous years). In doing so, though, I also found out that the Multiple Desktops feature of flwm-topside is a bit temperamental: windows seem to randomly jump between desktops. I had hoped that feature would help me negotiate the fact that I only have 800x600 resolution, but it appears not ideal.
This is not as nice to type on as the Dell Inspiron beast I usually use for the challenge; probably as a result of the form-factor, though the keyboard uses late 2000s keyswitches instead of the nice more-mechanical-like ones from the late 1990s used by the Inspiron, so that could also be to blame.
While this laptop has a headphone socket, I need an adaptor for my headset as the socket is a TRRS one instead of two TRS sockets, so I won't be able to use the microphone at least for the music (if I got that far, that is - I have installed Audacity in case, but it looks unlikely) until I have found my adaptors (they're in a box somewhere). Also, despite this laptop having Bluetooth, I haven't managed to get any Bluetooth audio working.
I'm glad the battery in this thing holds a charge as it turns out the power connector is a bit finicky and it loses connection if I move the laptop slightly. Fortunately, I can tell when that happens as, when on battery power, the screen dims slightly.
I guess I'm just rambling now, but that's sort of what all my blog entries for this challenge end up becoming anyway, so that's hardly surprising...
Work tomorrow means I have less time in Day 2 (I *will* be using a modern PC for work, but that's an accepted exception). I will try to avoid doing too much computing with my phone though: no social media (I'll leave that to when I'm at this PC), Discord (I have IRC on this PC, but it's not bridged so I'll be without those communities for the week), web browsing (unless I desperately need to, since it has a more modern browser than on this laptop), etc., but I will still use it for phonecalls/texts, XMPP, music and radio (because the FM and DAB signals aren't as good anymore thanks to all the LED bulbs causing interference on those frequencies. Most radio will require a web browser now that the BBC have shut down their Internet Radio feeds, meaning I *have* to use BBC Sounds in some shape or form, but I will refrain from general browsing).
I think that's all for today.
